We may not be out of the woods yet but here’s to enjoying a great summer in spite of the ongoing Covid restrictions and travel bans. Our advice is to focus on other ways to relax, de-stress and boost your reserves of much needed patience. So, why not make this your summer of health? We can all seek to relax through meditation and massage, we can look after our bodies through exercise and healthy eating – the trick is to find ways that work for you and your family. Find activities that are not far from home like a walk up beautiful Box Hill – something that will get everyone’s heart a-pumping!
We are keeping a close eye on news from Bushy Park Parkrun in the hope that we shall soon be able to benefit from this wonderful community activity once more. We have some advice for all our Parkrun-loving patients.
Finally, we are delighted to introduce Dan Whiley, massage therapist, who has recently joined the team, Dan comes from a dance background, he has a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of movement and the effects of injury on the body.

Latest news from Parkrun

We know that many of our patients are avid ‘Parkrunners’. Once Parkrun restarts, unless you have been exercising and running regularly during lockdown, try to take it easy for the first few runs and take the following into account:
Consider your current fitness levels and pace yourself accordingly – there is no need to aim for a personal best on the first run.
Try doing some strength training at home to support the running (look up strength training for runners or speak to one of our practitioners for advice).
Make sure that you warm up and that you are well hydrated, particularly in the hot weather.
Alternate running with walking so that you build up your stamina gradually.
Do not run through the pain if you feel a twinge or an old injury flaring up, do what feels right for you.
Be sure to stretch properly after the run.
Drink plenty of water.
