Focus on your Wellbeing at Christmas

We all know that Christmas can be a time of over indulgence and long hours spent on the sofa. We asked our practitioners for their best pointers to help you stay well over the holiday period. Take heed ….your bones, muscles, joints and digestive system will thank you for it:

Take some light exercise each day – a walk or a Christmas party boogie can help to improve your mental as well as your physical wellbeing.
Do not sit in one position for too long. Move around, do some gentle stretches, make it a fun game for children and adults of all ages.
If you are celebrating away from home, consider taking your own pillows/other home comforts.
Do not kneel or sit on the floor to wrap presents. Sit or stand at a table which is suitable for your height.
Be mindful of your back and take care when lifting heavy objects, eg guest beds, suitcases or the15lb turkey! Remember to bend your knees.
Travel safe, do not rush, allow plenty of time to get to your destination. If you are driving, have regular breaks to stretch your legs.
If your New Year’s resolution is to get fit in 2024, make it a gradual process. Do not overdo it at first, and ask your GP and/or your osteopath for advice if embarking on a new exercise regime.

Kristina Ericsson Richards, Nutritional Therapist & Health Coach, adds:

Approach festive treats with mindfulness. Savour each bite, and enjoy without overindulging.
Don’t forget to stay hydrated. Opt for water between alcoholic beverages. Hydration is crucial for energy levels and overall wellbeing.
Create a balanced plate at festive gatherings. Fill half your plate with colourful vegetables, a quarter with lean proteins, and the rest with your favourite holiday treats.
Don’t go to a party hungry. If you do, you will be fighting a losing battle. Have a low-GL snack before you go.

Finally, to help you navigate the season, Kristina has created a free guide featuring 10 Christmas treats that are not only delicious but can also contribute to your wellbeing. Download your guide today and embrace a festive season that prioritises health without sacrificing the fun.
