Land’s End to John O’Groats

Stuart is helping to raise £2500 to Support the Bowra Foundation by Cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats on 10-18th September 2022.  If you would like to support Stuart, please go to his JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

“In 2014 my childhood friend and neighbour Mark Bowra was at the pinnacle of his career. A decorated officer in the UK Special Forces, Mark had been tested in some of the most arduous environments and had always been successful. All this was to change in the space of a few minutes. Mark suffered a major stroke that would lead him to be hospitalised for over a year. To be so fit and active one moment then so reliant on others the next, truly stressed his physical and mental well-being. However Mark, being who he is, took this as another of life’s challenges and with his usual determination set about to help others who may be similarly affected. The result was him, with the help of family and friends, establishing the Bowra Foundation in 2019 to inspire resilience amongst people suffering neurological disorders through practical help and physical challenges. This September I’m part of a team, amazingly including Mark, that is attempting to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 9 days – an average of 110 miles per day. We’re hoping to raise funds to help Mark and the Bowra Foundation to inspire the unrelenting pursuit of recovery!”  Stuart Walker

This Summer we are Reflecting on Better Health

Dan Whiley, one of our Sports and Massage Therapists & Movement Specialist, gives us his thoughts on how you can improve your overall health by following five pillars of health.

“There is a multitude of factors that one has to consider when it comes to optimising health. As a health care practitioner, I need to consider the whole context of someone’s life. Health means different things to different people, and each individual’s needs will vary depending on numerous factors. Although there are limitations to placing health in such generalities, one could argue that health and wellbeing aren’t ‘one size fits all’ and that it is essential to cater to the unique individual to be truly effective. Nevertheless, introducing awareness and understanding some of the basic concepts surrounding the importance of these five pillars of health and exploring and deepening your practice, will have a significant effect on your quality of life and overall wellbeing. While this article isn’t a piece on how to, it acts to bring awareness to some basic guiding principles.”

The five pillars are sleep, diet, exercise, laughter and thoughts/emotions. Click here to read more from Dan Whiley, Reflecting on Better Health: Five Pillars.

Update – Covid Protocols

Further to updated advice from the UK government there is no longer a requirement for face masks to be worn in a healthcare setting. The Institute of Osteopathy advise that there is still a need to apply a risk-based approach to PPE and infection control measures. Therefore, if it is deemed necessary to protect either patients or practitioners from a risk of contracting Covid, then appropriate measures will still be taken in clinic. This may include the use of masks, gloves and aprons. Also, some patients may feel more comfortable with their practitioner wearing a mask so please feel free to request that we do too.

Additionally, we would kindly request that you contract us in advance of your appointment if you are concerned that you may have Covid or you have tested positive in the two days prior to your appointment. Thank you all for your patience and co-operation and rest assured that we remain committed to keeping everyone as safe as possible.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy Summer!
